While I looked up the origins of this rhyme, I learned about Mary Anning, who this rhyme was based on. She was a fossil collector and palaeontologist. Fascinating life and definitely ahead of her time. I loved telling her story.... especially about the fossilized poop!! Afterwards each camper was given a cigar box with some fossilized shark teeth and shells that they then decorated!

Every year I make a puppet of a specially selected member of the Dalton School community. This year it was a Cafeteria person who all the children thought was very special. She knows everyone's name and greets everyone with a smile!! I went to the school and helped students make their sock puppets and their music teacher, Liz Cruz, did the rest! She helped them create a song about her and then used the puppets to create a tribute. Here's the video with some pics! Video tr

So once again we will try to bring awareness of our friend the horseshoe crab! I thought I would go BIG this year by making a giant horseshoe crab costume! It was a learning experience!! I was able to wear it to our firefly night with families and then again to camp. If I were to make another, I would definitely try for LIGHTER!! Kids got to decoupage molts of real horseshoe crabs!! Of course it was all fun!!

This story centered around a birdhouse and the importance of helping birds prosper, including the dangers they face. I built a giant birdhouse of cardboard and told the story! The kids got to make their own including little birds. The best part was watching the kids play with the birdhouse!

A wonderful venture to work along side my son, Marc Sauvé and lead a Puppet Camp. Here we taught puppet techniques: voice, position, puppet making and having lots of fun!!

Family Night Series at Duck Creek Arts Center invited me to perform. This time I was joined by my son, Marc Sauvé, who helped write the script and direct this performance. It was a beautiful venue in East Hampton, NY. Our entire audience was that of families.

I'm always looking for something kids can put together that highlights what they are learning about. My mission this time was the Dragonfly! I like the simplicity of the look of this project but the much of the work was with the prep: finding the right kind of cellophane, wire, and picking up lots of skinny branches and acorn tops!!

Yes! this is the point of all this!! Some fearless teachers using them in class as a way of connecting to their students. Also, after reading a story with my students, they got to retell the story using a Crankie and puppets! It never gets old! Lucky enough to have a School Director that supports puppetry and even enjoyed the puppet I made of her! Shout out to Gillian Todd.

One local school asked if I could share a Crankie story and make puppets with the kids. After talking with the very creative and enthusiastic teacher, it was agreed that the kids could create one collaborative Crankie to tell the story of the Water Cycle. I made her some puppets representing : cloud, drops, storm, etc. and the kids did the rest,. They present to their parents all they learned through a Crankie and Puppets!!

A Librarian asked me if I had any Crankies with stories about bears..... I didn't, but I found one fast and I truly fell in love with it! This Crankie is also made of a Cardboard box and little felt puppets! Love the story!

We are determined to make this an annual event, that encompasses a nature hike, planting native pollinator plants, food, drink, crafts, face painting and community! I performed my original story of Butterfly migration and this year added a giant butterfly / Calaca . There is always more to add for next year!

Families enjoyed a hike and observed hundreds of migrating tree swallows. This was a fun inspiration! I decided I would make large flapping birds that participants could use while on the hike! For the indoor entertainment, I made a giant cardboard Crankie to tell the story of "Lights out!" during bird migration, Children were later able to join in with their own paper silhouettes of different birds and re-tell the story. Some bird crafts followed!

In celebration of the Winter solstice Turtlebeback Farm hosted an evening that included a nature walk, seasonal refreshments and simple crafts for all. I got to share the Story of Tomten and the Fox! I loved trying out some shadow puppetry with an overhead projector. Afterwards, children had their hand at retelling the story and playing with shadow puppets!

Here's what I do a lot!! Making sock puppets with kids of all ages! It is always fun and when they are given accessories for their puppets!! The best part is seeing them come alive in the children's hands!
